Sunday School
Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me” (Mark 10:14). Sunday School usually meets at 10:30 on Sunday mornings. The children sing for church services once a month and have a special Christmas program. All children 3 years old – 8th grade are encouraged to participate. If you live in the neighborhood, come for a visit! We look forward to learning about Jesus’ love for us through singing, crafts, and fellowship.
Confirmation
Confirmation class is held weekly for all 7th and 8th grade children and their parents. After completing the two year Confirmation class, children are Confirmed during a special worship service and begin participating in Holy Communion during worship.
Vacation Bible School
Vacation Bible School (VBS) is held at Emmaus each summer. Check the calendar in the spring to find out this year’s dates. For the past few years we have had an evening VBS starting with a light supper in our church social hall. Then we move to our original sanctuary, which is air conditioned now, for music and story time. We have even had an opportunity for the adults to have some Bible study time while the children are at VBS. We are aiming at children from ages 3-12 (sixth grade). Any children in seventh grade or above are asked to offer assistance as helpers. We would like every child in our congregation to come, and we ask members to sign up and bring any children they know.
Library
The library at Emmaus has primarily religious books, tapes, and DVDs serving everyone from preschool to adulthood. Come on Sunday and check it out!
Adult Instruction Class
In Emmaus’ Adult Instruction Class, we will go through the basics of the Christian faith. We will use the Bible to look up various passages upon which our faith is founded, and our thoughts and discussions will be guided by writings like Luther’s Small Catechism, the Augsburg Confession, and Lutheranism 101. This class is for anyone wanting to become a new member at Emmaus, or for anyone who wants a refresher on the teachings of the Lutheran Church. All are welcome and invited. Living with God / Life with God
The Living with God sessions continued Pastor Tom Trapp’s Scripture and Life Bible study series, which was offered for 28 years at Concordia St. Paul. The sessions provide an opportunity for lay people to delve into the Scriptures and find one’s way through sometimes challenging material. The Life with God classes were an overview of the Christian faith and served as the new member class at Emmaus for many years. Pastor Tom taught courses in Old and New Testament for 30 years at Concordia and desires to share his insights with a wider public. Check out the videos on our YouTube channel. Education Hour
Bible Study for adults is led by Pastor Nick Kooi in the Social Hall each Sunday at 10:30 a.m.
Other Bible Study Groups
LifeLight Bible Study has evening meetings in the Garden Room at Emmaus. LifeLight is a series that offers studies of several different books of the Bible. It is both a personal and a group Bible study.
